Chocolate Tahini Smoothie

Chocolate lovers this one is for you! And if you or a family member has a nut allergy, this is a great alternative. This smoothie will satisfy that sweet tooth, but is packed with protein, fat and fiber to keep you fueled and satisfied for the day ahead.

I always keep my pantry stocked with smoothie supplies: nut butters, frozen fruit, cacao. greens and a high quality protein powder. This gives me some security knowing I have what I need to whip together a quick meal, and can satisfy a craving while supporting my body and energy levels at the same time!

One of the keys to a smoothie that keeps you satisfied is adequate protein so having one you love that you can easily throw into your blender is important. But I’m just going to say it…most of the protein powders on the market are garbage. They have a huge ingredients list with added sugars, artificial flavors and a bunch of unnecessary additives. I was pumped when I found THIS one and now it’s the only protein powder I use and recommend to my clients, family and friends. It’s organic, has only three ingredients and goes through a non-chemical extraction process. It checks all the boxes and the flavor is amazing. I love the chocolate and vanilla, but it also comes in unflavored. I use it for my smoothies, add it to my coffee and even use it in baked goods for a protein kick. The next star ingredient in this cup of goodness is maca powder. If you haven’t heard of maca, it’s a cruciferous vegetable that looks like a mix between a radish and a potato! You can find it all over the internet, but I only get mine from Karen Berrios. Why? Their maca is organic, straight from Peru (where it’s native) and it’s gelatinized, meaning the starch is removed. This process makes it’s easier on the digestive system and more bioavailable, therefore it’s more nutrient dense than the “raw” maca you might see on the market. There are also three types of maca (red, yellow and black) and this one is a beautiful blend of all three. It’s also grown at 14,000 ft above sea level= more antioxidants! Ingredients

  • 1-2 cups unsweetened nut milk or water
  • 20-30 g chocolate protein powder
  • 1/2 cup frozen cauliflower
  • 1/2 frozen banana
  • 1 tbsp tahini (ground sesame seeds)
  • 1 tsp vanilla extract
  • 1/2 tsp ground cinnamon
  • pinch of sea salt
  • 1 tsp maca powder

Instructions

  • Add everything to a blender and enjoy!
